SNAP-8 is generally identified in cosmetic ingredient terminology as acetyl octapeptide-3.The name reflects its structure: “acetyl” refers to the attached acetyl group, while “octapeptide” indicates that the peptide contains eight amino acids.
It is sometimes described in consumer products as an “acetyl hexapeptide serum,” but this terminology can lead to confusion with Argireline, which is commonly associated with acetyl hexapeptide-8 and, in some older ingredient references, acetyl hexapeptide-3. Although SNAP-8 and Argireline are both cosmetic peptides often discussed for their wrinkle-related applications, they are different ingredients and should not be considered interchangeable.
SNAP-8, also known as Acetyl Octapeptide-3, is a synthetic eight-amino-acid peptide studied primarily in cosmetic and peptide research. It is structurally inspired by a region of SNAP-25, a protein involved in the SNARE complex and neurotransmitter release.
Research has focused on the peptide’s proposed ability to interact with SNARE complex assembly and its potential effects on processes associated with facial muscle contraction. These properties have made SNAP-8 a subject of interest in studies involving topical peptide formulations and the appearance of expression lines.
SNAP-8 is related to Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8), but the two are distinct peptides with different amino-acid sequences. Research involving Argireline should therefore not automatically be interpreted as evidence for SNAP-8.
Current research includes laboratory studies, formulation research, and limited human evaluations. However, evidence for isolated SNAP-8 remains limited, and topical delivery to the neuromuscular junction has not been conclusively established.

Efficacy of bioactive peptides loaded on hyaluronic acid micro-array patches: A monocentric clinical study
This human study evaluated a hyaluronic-acid micro-array patch containing acetyl octapeptide-3 along with several other bioactive ingredients. The study reported improvements in fine lines/wrinkles, hydration, dermal density, and thickness. Because multiple ingredients were present, the results cannot be attributed to SNAP-8 alone.
An Open Label Clinical Trial of a Peptide Treatment Serum and Supporting Regimen Designed to Improve the Appearance of Aging Facial Skin
This was a clinical study of a multi-peptide facial serum that included acetyl octapeptide-3 among seven peptides. The study therefore provides clinical context for formulations containing SNAP-8, but it does not establish the independent efficacy of SNAP-8 because several active ingredients were used together.

Storage Instructions:
All of our products are manufactured using the Lyophilization (Freeze Drying) process, which ensures that our products remain 100% stable for shipping for up to 3-4 months.
Once the peptides are reconstituted (mixed with bacteriostatic water), they must be stored in the fridge to maintain stability. After reconstitution, the peptides will remain stable for up to 30 days.
Lyophilization is a unique dehydration process, also known as cryodesiccation, where the peptides are frozen and then subjected to low pressure. This causes the water in the peptide vial to sublimate directly from solid to gas, leaving behind a stable, crystalline white structure known as lyophilized peptide. The puffy white powder can be stored at room temperature until you’re ready to reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water.
Once peptides have been received, it is imperative that they are kept cold and away from light. If the peptides will be used immediately, or in the next several days, weeks or months, short-term refrigeration under 4C (39F) is generally acceptable. Lyophilized peptides are usually stable at room temperatures for several weeks or more, so if they will be utilized within weeks or months such storage is typically adequate.
However, for longer term storage (several months to years) it is more preferable to store peptides in a freezer at -80C (-112F). When storing peptides for months or even years, freezing is optimal in order to preserve the peptide’s stability.
